Term 1:

Oral Language:
This term our focus with oral language is the presenting skills of the students. Each student will be asked to give a short presentation on something about themselves e.g. an interest/sport/activity...
We will be looking at what makes a good presenter focussing specifically on eye contact, volume, pace and interesting material. At home please speak with your child about what they might like to present. If they have any visual aids/materials they can be brought into the class and stored in my cupboards until they present at the end of the day.

Reading:  Most nights your child should have a reading book to bring home and read with you. This is a book at the level your child is currently reading at. The book is designed to stretch them with new ideas, vocabulary and concepts. If you are unsure on ways in which to assist your child's reading please talk with me.

Maths: Starting in term 2, a maths basic facts notebook will be coming home with basic facts for the students to learn.

Spelling:  Each  Week the students will get 4-5 new spelling words to learn over the week in their spelling notebook.  The words are selected following testing of the students on what words they can spell in their writing at school.  I intend having the students tested each Friday with new spelling words going home at the beginning of the following week.
Below are the essential spelling lists the students words are taken from.  By the end of 2 years at school students are expected to be able to spell all the words on lists 1, 2 and 3 and be working towards list 4. Later in the year I will put up lists 5, 6 and 7 for those students who are working beyond the lists below.
